Now, this is almost certainly too arcane even for Lost, since not that many people would even know this, and there could be both legal and production reasons, but since this IS Lost, here goes:

There were several things wrong with the scene where the passport gets stamped as Kate and the marshall arrive at LAX.

--Customs aren't the folks who inspect your passport. at the time of this scene, apparently 2004, it would have been either Immigration or Homeland Security, which took overall control of immigration and customs in '03. Customs has their checkpoint after you get your luggage. This would be easy to explain away: Perhaps they just combined the two so they could have the guy ask `anything to declare?' and the marshall could say `just a murderer.'

--over the last 20 years, i've been through LAX's international terminal about 20 times. because i am a u.s. citizen, i have NO u.s. arrival/departure stamps in my passport. so when the guy stamped "US Customs" in the passport, it was just for dramatic effect.

--if there were a stamp, it wouldn't be Customs -- it's currently Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection. the guy's uniform didn't have Homeland Security. Only outpoint because of Sayid's Iranian passport. Could there have not been a 9/11 in this alternate reality/timeline?

--the Australian visa stamp we see is interesting but not accurate, at least not currrently. It has the kangaroo most likely for effect, to make it easy to make out. Australian stamps today -- and in '04 -- are/were very basic, just the name of the airport, date of arrival, etc. No logo. BUT the 'roo logo here does look familiar to me. It may have been used in the early '90s, when I lived in Sydney three years. i can't find the passport i was using then to check. any other travelers to Australia in the early '90s or late '80s out there who could check?

Woah! With the "Alternate Timeline No 9/11" thing, do you think it's possible they're tying this timeline with Fringe's Alternate one? A bit of a strech, but that would be a cool little nod to the show.

Idk if this is anywhere but its a pretty cool thing. Their is similar parallels throughout the plane scenes that are interesting.

I've read that book. No connection to LOST in any way.

I don't know if this is an easteregg, but it stuck me when Sawyer carried Juliet out of the mine, glaring at and mistakingly blaming Jack, it was the same as when Sayid carried Shannon and blamed Ana Lucia.

(It wasn't till later that he knew there were other forces manipulating their actions.)

When James attacked Jack out of the blue, it was sorta the same way that Sawyer fought dirty and underhanded in S5, by attacking him while he was distracted.

Sawyer had the same contrived complaints too.

Kate was the instigator for both.
